The Flowstate Origin Story

Flowstate Experience was born after we designed and facilitated an intensive Cold Exposure Community programme for another business. As the programme came to an end, we realised that the participants were left in a kind of limbo - we had helped them create connections and a community of sorts but they had no way to continue this afterwards. This led to the "Saturday Stoats" - weekly guided walks and cold water therapy, a way to continue with Cold Exposure training but, more importantly, with the community building that was already well underway. Over time the Saturday Stoats developed into much more than just walks - from cinema trips to camping, rollerskating to overseas adventures, the Flowstate crew will give anything a try! And we didn't forget about Cold Exposure either - with waterfalls, rivers, seas and, of course, ice baths remaining an important part of our community offerings.
The team also continued with our own training, both at home and in Poland with our mentor, scientist and Cold Exposure pioneer, Valerjan Romanovski. Our continued commitment to expanding our knowledge of the cold and staying at the forefront of this emerging science means that Flowstate Experience is led by some of the most experienced Cold Exposure practitioners in the UK, with our team holding multiple British and World Records in Cold Exposure endurance and performance.
In 2025 we became a Community Interest Company - basically a business that has been set up to benefit the community rather than make money for its owners. Being a CIC doesn't mean we can't make money, we still have bills to pay after all - the difference is what happens to the money that's left over.....we're not-for-profit, which means any surplus we make isn't paid out to us as owners. Instead it goes back into Flowstate and our community purpose, helping us continue our community work, improve our facilities and reach more people who could benefit from what we do. So when you support Flowstate you're not just supporting a small business, you're supporting a whole community!
"Flowstate is an optimum state of consciousness, when you're so focused on what you're doing that nothing else matters. Time, anxiety, frustrations, all become irrelevant and all that matters is the present moment"
